Of Earthquakes and Pipelines

Yesterday’s earthquake and Japan and the subsequent nuclear plant destabilization in the country, makes me wonder what would happen here.  We know that there are thousands of underground, underwater and other means of finding, drilling and transporting oil and natural gas across the United States.  What would happen if we experienced and earthquake of the magnitude of that in Japan?  Who is looking at this?  Who is working on this issue?

It is striking that there has been so little media coverage of this question.  Of course, I really don’t watch much television so maybe I’ve missed it.  However, in the little television coverage of the earthquake I’ve followed, I’ve seen no talking head addressing the real threat that we would face.  Imagine the conflagration across the southwest and Alaska.  Scary.
